Theoretically, there are several philosophical theories, such as Phenomenology, which attempt to explain what an object and its building elements are. In Husserlian Phenomenology, an objects is considered as a stand alone, context free and self sufficient being that has its own identity based on its physical properties and regardless of its relation to other objects and the 'subject' which is perceiving that object and his interpretations. Later, Heidegger questioned this assumption by saying that perception is not a one way, detached activity but our involved, interested and meaning giving interaction and continuous interpretation of the wholly connected network of entities around us builds up the world around us. In this interactive process, social and historical context is as important as forms, material and physical properties.
